PROJECT: Production of Videos documenting the Life Experiences of Inuit Elders in Nunavik

POSITION: COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR for this project - on contract

For a project organized by Avataq Cultural Institute, a non-profit, Inuit organization, with a head office in Inukjuak (Nunavik) and administrative office in Westmount we are looking for a COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR. The project will entail the set-up of a one-year interview program that will aim at collecting the life history and knowledge of Inuit Elders over seventy years of age in five Nunavik communities. The total duration of the project may possibly last three years.

The candidate will be supervised by the Head of Research, archives and documentation and will work with a team that will include Avataq Executive director (Inukjuak), the Local cultural committees’ Regional Coordinator (Inukjuak), as well as other Avataq staff and a team hired for the project specifically. We are seeking a dynamic person who will be responsible the following tasks:

The project will need extensive communications with Nunavik and local organizations by phone, email, and social media.

- Set up of communication strategy, including region-wide advertisement;

- Coordination of documents translation (English-Inuktitut-French);

- Follow-up on job posting for the work team at start of the project;

- Follow-up of Elders list to be interviewed;

- Drafting of interview objectives and questions to be asked;

- Follow-up on release forms;

- Research on equipment and methodology for the interview sessions and handling of recorded material;

- Coordination of information research before each field trip of the team;

- Ensure liaison during field trips;

- Drafting of activity reports;

- Other related tasks will be included as well.

Job requirements:

- Bilingualism is essential (Inuktitut-English, Inuktitut-French, or English-French);

- Experience of Nunavik is an essential requirement;

- College or university education; Communications degree a definite asset;

- Computer knowledge: Word, Excel, social media;

- Good writing skills needed for correspondence and reports;

- Graphic design knowledge is an asset;

- Interest in developing knowledge base in the field of Inuit culture and history;

- Methodical and punctual, team worker;

- Available to travel if needed.

- Salary: proportional to experience (part-time schedule);

- Location of work: Westmount;
