From July 19 to 22, 2010, the second annual Kangirsuk Arctic Char Festival will put Ungava Bay into party mode.
Many local and visiting musicians will perform, including Beatrice Deer, Charles Keelan, Claude Mckenzie (formerly of Kashtin), Inu Pishuun-Nasakapi, Rick Dobera, Eli Agiyouk-Timutik Aliqu, George Kakayuk, George Angnatuk, Charlie Tumic, Maggie Akpahatak, Jobie Arnaituk, Charlie Iqalluk, Sandy Tooma, Peter Nassak Junior, Paulusie Saviadjuk, Jonny, Lizzie and Rhoda, Etua May Araaluk Band, Jennie and Zebedee Nungak, Willis Tagoona, Tyson Schallmann and Dave Lane.
Several activities are scheduled, including a boat race and many fishing derbies. Arctic Char – the variety found near Kangirsuk is very popular in the region – will of course be the main attraction, featured at a cooking contest where visitors will be able to sample it in every form (raw, cooked, salted, pickled, smoked, sushi, etc.).
