JOB POSTING - Assistant Director - Inuktitut Terminologists Secretariat

In conjunction with the Director of the Inuktitut Terminologists Secretariat, the Assistant Director will achieve the following tasks:

Responsibilities:

- To assist in establishing the Inuktitut Terminologists Secretariat, as outlined in the Five-Year Plan formulated by Avataq Cultural Institute.

- To organize, plan and oversee three to four Inuktitut Terminology workshops annually.

- To systematically review the material in Avataq’s possession, mainly from Inuktitut terminology workshops held from the 1980’s to present, for refinement, editing, dialect inclusion, corrections, proofreading, etc.

- To determine final objectives for all terminology work taken on by the Inuktitut Terminologists Secretariat.

- To assist and facilitate upgrade development of Local Cultural Committees (LCC’s) and formulate and deliver local level programs and activities made to increase the circulation and exposure of Inuktitut and Inuktitut knowledge.

- To interact regularly with other agencies and entities who can enhance all work to benefit Inuktitut terminology.

- Partake in designing the aspects of the structure of the future Inuktitut Language Authority of Nunavik.

- To develop material for Inuktitut language and Inuktitut traditional skills instruction regimes.

- To attend conferences, meetings, and gatherings about Language and Inuit knowledge.

Job requirements:

- Strong experience in management and administrative tasks.

- Knowledge of Inuit culture.

- The knowledge of Inuktitut is an asset. Bilingualism (English is a strong asset).

- Strong writing skills

- Advanced computer skills.

- Proven abilities in leadership (communication, ability to lead)

- Abilities in organization, planning, and logistics.

- Strong interpersonal skills and broad open mindedness.

- Interest and curiosity about indigenous cultures and Nunavik.

- Availability for trainings.

- Availability to travel regularly.
