JOB OPPORTUNITY - Program Officer for Aumaaggiivik – Nunavik Arts Secretariat

Avataq Cultural Institute is a non-profit organization, created in 1980, dedicated to protecting and promoting the Language and Culture of the Inuit of Nunavik (Northern Quebec). The organization has its head office in Inukjuak, Nunavik, and an administrative office in Westmount, Québec.

AVATAQ is currently seeking a professional and dynamic candidate for the following position: Program Officer for Aumaaggiivik – Nunavik Arts Secretariat (posting for JBNQA beneficiaries only).

Under the general supervision of the Coordinator of Aumaaggiivik—Nunavik Arts Secretariat, the Program Officer maintains activities of the Secretariat, contacts Nunavik artists, and manages the grant programs and promotional activities for Nunavik artists:

- Receive and evaluate the grant programs applications.

- Make sure the applications meet the grant programs requirements, and follow up on application and grant reports with artists.

- Support artists in portfolio preparation.

- Write biographies and document artists’ works.

- Promote the Secretariat’s grant programs as well as programs from governmental organizations.

- Write press releases and biographies of Nunavik artists.

- Write articles and newsletters on artists and art in Nunavik.

- Develop new activities for the Nunavik Arts.

- Write requests for funding for the Secretariat’s projects.

- Support the Coordinator in producing annual and progress reports.

- Participate in jury organization.

Job requirements:

- Studies in an Art discipline, Art History, Communication and/or Management or equivalent.

- Two (2) years of experience in program management or relevant domain.

- Knowledge in the field of Art or experience in an artistic discipline (visual arts, theater, craft, circus, etc.)

- Experience in public relations and press.

- Knowledge of computers, word processing, spreadsheet and social networking.

- Mastering of Inuktitut and English, spoken and written. Knowledge of French is an asset.

- Strong writing skills.

- Budget management skills.

- Organized and detail oriented.

- Punctuality.

- Willing to travel in Nunavik and elsewhere for stays that can extend up to two weeks.

- Good communicational skills and team player.

Additional information:

- Working schedule: 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday (35 hours/week)

- Salary: $40,000 to $45,000 per year – Added benefits for JBNQA beneficiaries

- Location: Westmount Office
