Information Officer

Avataq Cultural Institute is a non-profit organization, created in 1980, dedicated to protecting and promoting the Language and Culture of the Inuit of Nunavik (Northern Quebec). The organization has its head office in Inukjuak, Nunavik, and an administrative office in Westmount, Québec.

AVATAQ is currently seeking a professional and dynamic candidate for the following position: Information Officer.

In collaboration with the Director of the Research, Archives and Documentation and the Head Archivist, the Information Officer will have the following responsibilities:

- Welcoming visitors who come to consult the Documentation Center (Inuit and non-Inuit);

- Reception and handling of historical photos reproductions;

- Reception of requests for information by phone or email;

- Evaluating the requests in term of priority and relevance;

- Handling the appointment schedule for consultation;

- Answering information requests by providing references to library documents, photos from the historical photos collection, oral history recordings and texts, and other archives and resources;

- Compiling lists of resources for specific subjects and developing other reference tools;

- Working on photo identification;

- Working on presentations about Inuit culture;

Other communication tasks for the Institute:

- Providing guided tours of the Westmount office and the Qarmaq for groups of visitors, especially for Inuit groups;

- Working in collaboration with other departments;

- Giving presentations about Avataq on occasions;

- Other tasks can be requested.

Jobrequirements:

- Post-secondary studies in documentation or Library studies is a definite asset;

- Three (3) years of experience in a similar job;

- Inuktitut spoken and written is an essential requirement;

- English and/or French is necessary;

- Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office, FileMaker Pro);

- Other skills needed: precision and organization, punctuality, team worker;

- Proud to represent and transmit his/her Inuit identity and to represent Avataq according to the guidelines that will be provided;

- Able to deal with different kinds of visitors in a professional manner and able to speak in public;

- Availabletotravelon occasion.

Additional information:

- This is a permanent position with benefits (after probation period). The period of probation willconsistof intensive training;

- Schedule of work can be flexible, minimum 21 hours/week, up to 35 hours;

- Location: Westmount Office;

- Salary according to experience;
