Aupaluk

AUPALUK means “the ground is almost red.” When an area or its mountains are reddish, we say they are “aupaluk.” There is an area called “Aupaluk” near Puvirnituq.

“Aupaluk” is also a family name, after an ancestor who lived in the area of the same name. The population of Aupaluk consists of less than 100 Inuit. Although there are so few of them, they choose to live there because that is where their ancestors lived. They know the hunting grounds. In general, the Inuit are happy to live where they grew up.
