OFFRE D'EMPLOI - Local Cultural Committee Development Agent

Avataq Cultural Institute is a non-profit organization, created in 1980, dedicated to protecting and promoting the Language and Culture of the Inuit of Nunavik. The organization has its head office in Inukjuak, Nunavik, and an administrative office in Montréal.

Avataq has recently reshaped its Language department and is now setting up an Inuktitut Terminologists Secretariat within the structure of Avataq Cultural Institute. The Secretariat will work closely with all the Nunavik Local Cultural Committees.

Avataq is currently seeking for three professionals and dynamic candidates for the following position: Local Cultural Committee Development Agent for each of the Nunavik coasts (Hudson, Ungava and Hudson Straight).

Under the direction of the Director of Local Cultural Committee Development the three Local Cultural Committee Development Agents will achieve the following tasks:

Responsibilities:

- Develop and formulate a plan to upgrade Local Cultural Committees.

- Review the Local Cultural Committees legal status and by-laws.

- Advise, motivate, and inspire communities on language, culture and identity issues.

- Look for local resources on language, culture and identity.

- Keep the Local Cultural Committees informed of all developments and plans being marked out for the future of Inuktitut language preservation activities in Nunavik, Inuit Nunangat, or nationally.

- Participate in field trips to communities to advance Inuktitut preservation activities and developing programs.

- When required or asked by their Director, attend meetings and/or conferences/gatherings connected to their work of advising Local Cultural Committees.

Job requirements:

- Experience in management and administrative tasks.

- Knowledge of Inuit culture.

- The knowledge of Inuktitut is an asset. Bilingualism (English is a strong asset).

- Strong writing skills

- Advanced computer skills.

- Proven abilities in leadership (communication, ability to lead)

- Abilities in organization, planning, and logistics.

- Strong interpersonal skills and broad open mindedness.

- Interest and curiosity about indigenous cultures and Nunavik.

- Availability for trainings.

- Availability to travel regularly.
