In 2002, when Nunavik hosted the Inuit Circumpolar Conference in Kuujjuaq, Avataq Cultural Institute created an exhibition called KUUJJUATUQAQ 1882-1884 / KUUJJUAQ c.1968, which integrated a number of pieces collected by Lucien Turner between 1882 and 1884, and which were on loan from the collection of the prestigious Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C. This was a remarkable event that gave the residents of Kuujjuuaq the opportunity to reconnect with their distant past, as well as with more recent images from a fascinating unpublished series of family photos dating from 1968.
